Why Meals on Wheels?
For some people it�s a temporary solution while recuperating from an illness; for others it�s a permanent solution to maintaining their independence and continuing to live in their own homes.

Who prepares the meals?
All meals are prepared at Saint Joseph Hospital & Health Center. Special diets are provided if needed, according to doctor�s orders.

What about cost?
Since Meals on Wheels receives no government funding, the cost must be borne by the client, or perhaps a friend or relative. Payment is made to the Friday driver. Charges to the client are held to a minimum, covering meal cost and part of the operating expenses. The cost of delivery is borne by the volunteers.

How are meals delivered?
A hot, well-balanced meal is delivered for the client 5 days a week. A small, cold evening meal can also be provided at the same time. There is no delivery on the following major holidays: New Year�s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

How can I help?
You can volunteer to help deliver meals once a month or more if you wish. You�ll be performing an invaluable service to homebound elderly and disabled people. Encourage your church congregation or the organizations to which you belong to become involved in Meals on Wheels by providing volunteers. You or your organization may donate to Meals on Wheels. Donations are very much appreciated. Please make checks payable to Meals on Wheels and send them to the address listed above.

Our volunteers give their time and love helping others. These people are the lifeblood of Meals on Wheels. Some are retired folks; some come from religious groups and service clubs; others are working people who still find time to volunteer. All are dedicated people of various ages and backgrounds from all areas who want to help others. Our volunteers value the warm, personal contact they have with the people we serve and realize a new fulfillment by their outreach to those in need. Volunteers usually deliver a specific route on a monthly or weekly basis. It takes about one to one and a half hours to pick up the meals, deliver the route and return the containers.
