Anger Control Training Program
This is a comprehensive training program to help people change their thoughts/feelings and behavior. This practical step-by-step guide for anger control consists of a one-hour individual evaluation with an extensive anger history assessment. It then consists of six core group sessions with an average length of an hour and a half each.
The main approaches are:
Awareness: Clients need to be able to recognize their specific thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, which can exacerbate feelings of anger and lead to aggressive behavior.
Coping Strategies: Once the client has developed an awareness of the above factors, they can acquire and utilize coping strategies to prevent or reduce their aggressive behavior. Coping strategies include challenging negative thinking styles, empathizing with others, physical excercise, talking to others, and problem solving.
Lifestyle: Once coping strategies are internalized, new, more adaptive forms of behavior emerge. The angry person is more likely to accept responsibility for his or her thoughts/actions and feel more in control. A result is an ability to think and act more positively when faced with challenges.
