Ponderosa began as a single steakhouse in Kokomo, Indiana in 1965. Later that same year, the chain grew to 25 units and moved its headquarters to Dayton, Ohio. In 1994, Ponderosa again moved its corporate headquarters, this time to Dallas, Texas in order to join the other Metromedia Restaurant Group concepts ( Bennigan's, Bonanza, and Steak and Ale ) and benefit from the synergy of shared resources. The early Ponderosa featured an "Old West" decor, with employees in cowboy-style uniforms, long tables with benches for seating and steaks cooking on the grill. Today, Ponderosa has adopted a "New West" decor and spirit, demonstrated by a strong commitment to hospitality, youthful and colourful uniforms, improved product quality and ever better dollar value. Ponderosa Steakhouse has evolved into one of the largest family steakhouse restaurant chains in the world, operating approximately 184 company restaurants and over 350 franchise restaurants, including approximately 47 international locations. The six Atlantic Canada restaurants have been owned and operated by COADY-AC ENTERPRISES LTD. since May, 1986. Coady-Ac Enterprises Ltd holds the franchise rights for the four Atlantic Provinces, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland. Ponderosa's original six item menu has expanded to include a variety of charbroiled chicken, grilled prime rib and seafood products in addition to the family priced steaks that are the company's trademark. The side salad has evolved into an entire buffet, featuring a large variety of all-you-can-eat salad items, soups, appetizers and other tasty foods. Ponderosa has always been dedicated to providing families with quality food at a fair price, friendly and attentive service, and a sparkling clean and fun restaurant. |
