Township Responsibilities

Poor Relief
Township may provide, within certain limitations to qualifying households, any or all of the following:

• Shelter Assistance
• Utility Assistance
• Food & Clothing
• Medical Assistance
• Insulin Treatment
• Transportation
• Household Necessities
• Burial Assistance
• Other benefits as determined by the trustee

Cemeteries
Responsible for maintenance of all abandoned cemeteries within the township.

Fire Protection
Fire protection provided for 2,500 residents in the unincorporated areas of Center Township via a contract with the city.

Weed Control
The trustee is responsible for the eradication of the uncontrolled growth of detrimental weeds and plants, in the unincorporated areas of the township.

Dog Licenses
The township trustee and/or assessor are required to collect a tax on each dog within the township.
