The Kokomo Repeater Club has 100+ amateur radio operators and its primary purpose is to maintain the four repeaters in the Kokomo / Howard County area. The repeaters are used to provide communication for licensed amateur radio operators. An amateur radio operator can use his hand-held low power transceiver or his home base transceiver to make contact with one of our repeaters. The repeater rebroadcasts his signal so that it can be received over a much larger area than he would be able to reach with his own equipment. This is possible due to the repeater having an antenna at a great height (200 to 400 ft) and a power level of 45 to 60 watts. An amateur radio license issued by the Federal Communication Commission is required to use the repeaters. Radio amateurs hams use the repeaters for inter ham and emergency communications. Several hams support the Emergency Management Agency during tornados, snow/ice storms, etc. The repeater frequencies are: 146.310/.910, 147.240/.840, 147.375/975, and 442.300/7.300 |
