Service projects linked to Kiwanis program "Young Children-Priority One", focuses on the needs of children in pediatric trauma, safety, childcare, early development, infant health, nutrition, and parenting skills.

Kiwanis plays a special role in developing future generation leaders:

• K-Kids clubs in elementary schools
• Builders clubs in middle school and junior high
• Key clubs in high school
• Circle K clubs at the collegiate level
• Acton clubs are made up of adults with mental and physical disabilities

World wide, Kiwanis International is committed to eliminating the devastating effects of Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD), the world's leading preventable cause of mental retardation. Kiwanis International clubs have funded this project by raising approximately $75,000,000 for this project in the past 5 years. Kiwanis is fighting this disorder by providing money and procedures for developing nations to get enough iodine in their diet (by providing for iodized salt). Every five cents donated to this cause will cure or prevent this disorder from occuring in one individual.

Indiana District service projects are focused on support for Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. A couple of recent statewide projects were the 1998-2000 project to build a heliport on top of the new Riley Hospital Emergency Room ($500,000), and the 2000-2001 project to provide a new Pediatrics Trauma Ambulance ($240,000).

Locally, Golden K Kiwanis Club of Kokomo fund raising projects provide support for Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, college scholarships for selected Howard County High School students and many other local projects. Fund raising activities include among others, the Riley Bucket, aluminum can recycling, annual yard sale, and bake sale auction.
