There are many aspects of the Head Start Fatherhood Program. First, Fatherhood Program participants meet weekly as a men only group. During these weekly group meetings, men discuss and learn about issues pertaining to themselves and fatherhood.
These weekly groups are at the core of the Fatherhood Program, providing the support and fostering the growth of the participants. Second, individual counseling is provided to all program participants. During these individual sessions, issues related to the individual are addressed and a plan is developed specific to the individuals needs. Often times, individual counseling can assist the person regarding issues too sensitive for group discussion. Third, referral services are offered to assist in specific needs. Typical referral agencies or partnerships may include employment and job training, childcare facilities, family literacy, housing and community services, legal assistance, educational assistance, mental health services, and paternity testing. |
