Am I eligible to register to vote?
To Register to vote, you must meet the following requirements:
- A United States citizen
- 18 years of age by the next general election
- A resident of your precinct for at least 30 days prior to the general election
- No other person may register for you
Can I register to vote online?
Yes! You may now register to vote by downloading, printing, and mailing a signed form to the County Election Office or to the Indiana Election Division. Click here to download this form from the Indiana Secretary of State web site.
Where do I register to vote?
You may register to vote at any of the following locations:
- Clerk of Circuit Court office
- Howard County Voter Registration Office (Rm 106, Courthouse, Mon-Fri, 8-4)
- Bureau of Motor Vehicles
- Public Assistance Agencies
- Armed Forces recruitment offices
- Other agencies serving the disabled, under Indiana Code 3-7-16
Registration forms are available at the locations listed above, as well as the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library. (Please note that only the registration forms are available at the Library, you cannot register to vote at this location).
When is the deadline for registration?
Registration with Field Registrar must be completed no later than 44 days before an election. However, you may register in the offices of the Circuit Court Clerk or Election Office up to 29 days before an election.
What information is required to register?
You are required to give your name, address, date of birth, place of birth, and gender. You may be asked for your phone number and social security number but are not required to provide this information. You do not declare a party affiliation at the time of registration.
Do I need to re-register before each election?
No. If you have voted at least once in your precinct in any four-year period, your name will not be removed from the voter registration record.
What happens if I move?
You must transfer your registration whenever you move out of your precinct. You may complete the transfer form on the back of your voter registration card and return it to the offices of the Circuit Court Clerk or the Election Office. If you move to a different county, you must re-register in accordance with the voter registration laws of that county.
