Eastern Elementary School is part of the Eastern Howard School Corporation which is located in Greentown, Indiana, in Howard County. Our rural school community is composed of three townships and located approximately eight miles east of the highly industrialized city of Kokomo. During the current school year there are 725 students enrolled in our K-6 building. There are forty-four professionally certified staff members and over fifty non-certified staff members. Eastern Elementary School has been recognized with the Indiana Four Star School Award for nine of the last ten years. This award is presented in recognition for attaining language arts, mathematics, total ISTEP battery, and attendance scores in the top twenty-five percent of all Indiana schools. The lower grade levels (K-3) have self-contained classrooms with Primetime Instructional Assistants. Team teaching begins in fourth grade with two subject areas and continues in grades five and six with three subject areas. In addition to the regular classrooms, there are teachers for music, art, physical education, computer lab, Spanish, and Title 1. Special education services are provided in the areas of learning disabilities, mild mental disabilities, emotional handicaps, and communication disorders. Instructional Assistants are also used in the Title 1 Program and Special Services classrooms. An Instructional Assistant is present in the computer lab also. Two other programs are provided for Migrant Education and Gifted and Talented Education. Within our school is a public library which provides scheduled time for each classroom and story hours for preschoolers.
