Liberty, Jackson and Union Township schools combined in 1951 to form Eastern School Corporation. The first graduating class consisted of 58 students. Many of these students still reside in Eastern Howard County. In 1951 the first yearbook was developed and named the AURORA. Aurora means giver of light. The first graduating class chose the name in hopes that Eastern High School would shed light on its students for many years to come. "Good sportsmanship is the motto of our school and fans and athletes alike are encouraged to always maintain a courteous attitude toward opponents" (AURORA, 1951). A new building was opened in 1968. Since that time Eastern School Corporation has made many new building additions, including a new gymnasium. Greentown continues to grow, the average graduating class is now 95 students.Eastern continues to shed light on its students and community members. This tradition continues with special programs that include parent participation in critical decisions involving the school such as the Choose Eastern program. |
